THE MAYORAL CANDIDATESPLAYFORD, Noel: Lives in Tewantin. The one time teacher and local businessman is a former mayor of Noosa who served through three terms as council leader from 1988 97, after serving one term on council from 1982. He has been pipped at the election post only once in 1985.Although coming back from a lengthy spell, he has a proven track record on this, a course he knows how to run backwards. The man described at the state first green mayor reined in development approvals, helped ban high rises and oversaw the planning guides described as Noosa population cap.The former Local Government Association Queensland president liked to run no frills, cost effective councils and aimed to keep past rate increases to the CPI.Former Noosa Mayor Noel Playford addresses the public forum on deamalgamation at the J. Geoff PotterHe oversaw the overhaul of Noosa problematic sewerage treatment system by partnering with private enterprise.Making the council more accountable and interactive with the voters is a new priority for the former mayor, who had a hand in making the old Noosa Council one of the most open to scrutiny in Queensland.Critics say the Noosa Parks Association will be holding the whip hand if he is elected, but he says he is headstrong enough to run his own race. This will be his last campaign before going out to pasture, but he is intent for the next two years on leading a strong council team to take the region forward. Has impressive claims here, given his opposition, and should be at unbackable odds.PETERSEN, Patricia: Lives in Tewantin. This academic has a PhD and wants to exploit the synergies between economy, environment, and social and cultural wellbeing for the benefit of Noosa. She comes into this latest campaign after an unsuccessful tilt at the Federal Senate as the head and founder of her Australian Independents party. Before that she had no winning form in her six starts in federal, state and council elections. Her chances are not helped here in that her nomination has been endorsed by a section of the anti de amalgamation lobby, which picked up only 18.7% of the vote in Noosa landslide poll to split from the Sunshine Coast Council.Rated her top three goals at the Noosaville candidates night as solving Noosa homeless problem, getting improved health services and better aged care not usually ground travelled by local councils. Her chances are possibly handicapped by her previous public outings, including struggling to pinpoint where Cootharaba is.She bolted before the end of the latest candidates night, saying the audience had disrespected her.She has appeal for those who may not want a return to the Playford past, who want a woman as mayor and are attracted by her relative youth compared to her rival. Others might be prepared to back her as a fresh start. Her chances are likely to be as solid as her promise to turn Hastings St into a mall. A former Wall St financial high flier, he settled in Noosa after retiring at age 34. His wife runs a successful local restaurant and he has written the It Your Money financial advice column for the Noosa News. Is another of the "maiden" runners in that he has never stood for council before. However this member of the Tourism Noosa marketing committee is proud of being in the trenches with the Friends of Noosa and then the Noosa Independence Alliance, and he coined the slogan "Free Noosa".He wants a tight budget concentrating on basic services to keep rates rises down and attract job creating fresh talent to Noosa. He also wants the community to have some fun and has suggested a Noosa Olympics at show time, with hinterland towns versus coastal areas in tug of wars. One of the real chances.LOWE, Paul: Listed occupation is production assistant and lives at Pomona. He is a late starter in the campaign, with little public profile and no known previous form of running. Finish Line (NASDAQ:FINL) shares have plummeted, while Foot Locker (NYSE:FL) has moved higher. Shares of FL soared on the August 22 earnings beat. Then, just over a month later, FINL released earnings that sent the stock tumbling. Over the last three months FINL is down 18.3% while FL is up 8.4%. Let's assume for a minute that FINL is truthful in its tale that basketball hurt its business last quarter, doesn't that mean that FL could be set up for a weak quarter ahead? As we've noted before about FL, Foot Locker is highly levered to the basketball business. The beauty here is that basketball products carry premium prices, hence, higher margins. FINL is tailored to cater to the slower growth running segment, albeit a market that's just as large as the basketball segment. In any case, Given FL has a greater reliance on basketball shoes than FINL, we think investors should taper their bullish thesis on the stock. Drawing the comparisons (contrasts) between FL and FINLFirst, the two are not just similar with their business models, but (1) FL offers a 1.57% dividend yield and FINL's is at 1.27%. (6) Over the last three years, the two have traded in tandem on a forward ev/ebitda basis. But now shares of FINL trade at 5.6x forward ev/ebitda multiple and FL trades at 7.75x one of the largest divergences we've seen over the last three years. FL did get a multiple re rating after its stellar quarter with its forward P/E expanding from 14.5x to its current 16.3x. But is such a premium to FINL really justified? How'd FINL miss with Nike posting strong results? Both shoe retailers get the majority of their business from selling Nike (NYSE:NKE) products, which accounts for about 70% of each of annual product purchases. Nike continues to kill it and likely will for some time. So that means good things for FINL and FL, right? Not necessarily. Together, FINL and FL spend around $5 billion annually on their cost of sales, so their impact on Nike is very small. Nike is growing its direct to consumer and e commerce platform nicely, meaning the recent success of Nike could have nothing to do with FINL or FL. The other thing is that FINL's weakness in basketball shoes was driven by softness in its Jordan lines, not Nike. The good news there (for FINL) is that it might be a specific brand/product issue. As a side note, it's hard to use Nike as a bellwether for basketball shoes: (1) Nike's biggest shoe segment remains running (in terms of sales to wholesalers) accounting for 20% of wholesale brand sale. (2) And Nike only gets 60% of revenues from footwear. Contrarian view and why FL could withstand the same fate as FINL The one positive for FL is that it has less reliance on shoes than FINL. FINL gets some 88% of revenues from shoes, while FL generates just 76% from footwear. What's more is there is still an opportunity for FL to outperform expectations, where although it generates a larger part of company wide revenues from apparel, this segment has been underperforming over the last few quarters. Bottom lineFL appears to be a best in show shoe retailer, but we are more cautious after FINL's results. We are already within striking distance of our initial FL price target of $58 and the stock trades at a justified multiple. For FINL, we're still well off our $30 to $35 price target. But that assumes that FINL should be trading more in line with FL. If it margins and growth prospects remain tapered, then FINL's discount will prove to be justified. As a side note, FINL will be going up against toughcomps for the next couple of quarters. Comps for the current quarter (3Q) are 7% and then 6% for 4Q. We would play wait and see until FL's upcoming quarterly results before making a decision on whether FINL's recent price action is a buying opportunity. FL is set to release earnings in a couple months, toward the end of November. If FL shows signs of weakening (where the basketball business could prove to be a weakness for FL too) we'd revisit both shoe retailers to determine whether we're facing a near term hiccup or market shift. (More.) Nike Roshe PRM Women Aubergine Sail White Electric Green,Pronto General Manager, Demi Allen, introduced Seattle's bike share program to Institute of Transportation Engineers Tuesday evening at Seattle's Spitfire Grill. Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, APBP, hosted the gathering to learn about Pronto. Though on its inaugural day, Pronto greeted the public with kiosks, docks, bikes and some helmets, leading up to the roll out was a busy time, explained Allen. With slides, Allen presented the work the led up to last Monday including the unloading and assembling bicycles as well as testing. Pronto's automated checkout and tracking system had to be tested as well. So, in addition to bike techs, there were computer and database techs. Even the stations required some assembly, not to mention transport. Pronto station installations occurred primarily at night with the exception of Seattle Children's Hospital according to Allen. During this peak period, there were nearly 35 people working though that will fall off to a typical average of about 20. Though the process took a few days to complete Monday, October 13 Mayor Ed Murray led an inaugural day ride around Seattle to visit several of Pronto's newly installed stations. Following Allen's presentation, he fielded questions dealing with funding, helmets, expansion plans, safety goals, Seattle's 30 minute time frame, and whether members would have privileges in other cities operating bike sharing programs. Read on for Allen's Pronto Q A. Q: Has Pronto considered or initiated any efforts to change Seattle's mandatory helmet? A: Pronto is working within the current rule structure. The Mayor stands by the city's helmet requirement stating that it addresses a public health issue. One concern raised is that mandatory helmet requirements is a barrier to bike riding. Opponents say that many would be bicyclists, will not ride because they either will not wear or do not have access to helmets. Allen reiterated that this is not an issue Pronto would pursue. Q: How is the bike share program funded? A: Alaska Airlines is the major sponsor and funder giving the company the right to logo. Additional funders include Group Health and Seattle Children's Hospital. Pronto encourages corporate partners. Q: What are Pronto's expansion plans? A: Pronto (Puget Sound Bike Share) plans to expand over the next few years. However, in the near future, the plans as Mayor Murray emphasized are for equity, therefore, establishing stations in South and Central Seattle. Q: Why the 30 minute time limit? A: Seattle's allotted trip time of 30 minutes is data driven. Based on other bike share program data, the average bike share trip time among programs is 20 minutes from start to arrival. New York City allows 45 minutes. Q: What are the safety goals for Seattle's bike share program? A: Pronto's goal is to operate a safe program. Bike share programs in North America have a remarkable record. In the 4 years of their existence, there has not been one fatality. Both SDOT and Cascade Bicycle Club are working towards that goal through education and safety classes. Q: "I use to live in San Francisco. If I return for a visit, can I use a Pronto membership for bike share privileges there?" Currently, there is no reciprocity among bike share programs in the country. Each program has a different owners. Costumed cheerleaders haunt, spook frightfully delight on October sidelinesMany people of all ages enjoy masquerading about in a costume for Halloween. Real Nike Roshe PRM Women Aubergine Sail White Electric Green,Women Nike Free Run 3 Fireberry Electric Green The basketball court can be pretty slippery. While playing basketball on a dusty court, Player might realize that the dust is affecting the traction of the shoes. With the moves that one have to make to out beat the defense, Even on clean surfaces, bad traction can lead to injury, possibly even ending a career. Fortunately, improving your basketball shoes' traction is a simple affair and can be accomplished in just moments, even court side. Keeping surfaces clean and utilizing techniques to provide more grip can help players to be safe and move better on the court. How do you make your Basketball shoes sticky on the gym court? I might have the answers. Here they are just for you to read and maybe find some helpful hints for you to remember and try when you are on and off the court. Playing basketball is a very difficult task when your feet are sliding around on the court, but there are steps you can take to improve your shoe grip. It is possible to tighten up your basketball shoe grip greatly with these tips. 1)Adding saliva to the shoe soles can give the extra boost of shoe grip one need before the play. It isn't very fun or hygienic, but it does temporarily help you with shoe grip when you need it. 2)Washing your shoes can improve your basketball shoe grip greatly. Overtime, dust can reduces the friction the shoe is able to have on the court, losing your shoe grip. 3)The main cause of slippery courts is the dust which accumulates on the floor. Sweep basketball courts regularly with a dust mop to minimize dirt and dust. 4)Clean the bottoms of your shoes after every game, and at halftime if at all possible. The basketball court attracts dirt and dust and then attaches it to the bottom of your shoes, which reduces traction. Cleaning the bottoms of your shoes regularly will prevent dust and dirt from building up. 5)Replace shoes when the soles start to become worn. Basketball shoes are designed to have plenty of traction, but over time the tread starts to wear down. 6)The another way to get more basketball shoe grip is to go out and purchase a new pair of basketball shoes. one can find quality shoes for as cheap as $20 at sports stores. New shoes come with fresh rubber on the soles, and have much better shoe grip than an old pair could ever have. 7)By far, the easiest way to get more basketball shoe grip is to use traction boards. The traction board will ensure that you obtain optimal traction from your shoes. There are traction boards which ensure that you obtain optimal traction from your shoes. These boards have a large sticky surface to remove dust and oils from the bottom of player's shoes. Simply step on the sticky surface to clean the soles before any competition. After use, tear away the top sheet to expose a new tacky sheet. A typical sporting event requires one to two sheets. The traction board cleans the soles and restores the gripping power of your shoes in seconds. When the top sheet gets dirty, simply peel off the top sheet and it's instantly ready to start using again. The specially formulated abrasive surface removes the old, worn rubber from the bottom and sides of shoes and exposes a new rubber layer on the shoes. Shoe Scuff allows even greater traction and makes the shoes grip like new again. Scuff the shoes on the abrasive surface and then step on the sticky mat to gain more traction. Nike Roshe PRM Women Aubergine Sail White Electric Green Earlier this week, I traveled into the future exactly three hours and landed in New York City. I was contracted by the Museum of Sex to give a lecture on the historically violent nature of intercourse entitled, The Wound and the Weapon. But I also came to find and document a personal fascination of mine: gangs. Not that kind. New York City is a steely monument to the American dream. For over a century it has spewed its arsenal of riches and glory up and down the island of Manhattan and out across America like the bullets of some automatic weapon. A weapon made of opportunity. Yeah, that kind. Yet the city also has an unsightly byproduct. Poverty and destitution sleep in doorways or pee on subway stairs, reminding everyone that they exist, and werent fortunate enough to be shot in the face by success's opportunity gun from my previous metaphor. Whole boroughs belong to poor communities where violence and crime is rampant and, more importantly, where the American gang incubates. Real gangs, Cholo. Providence shined my first day at the museum when I met Carl the janitor. He was dusting souvenir vibrators in the gift shop. A 30 year old with a shaved head and narrow eyes, he had recently lost his night job for defecating on the desk of his boss following a heated argument. Apparently in this concrete jungle where dreams are made, there are some things you cant do. Carl had all the telltale signs of a gang member: a toothpick in his mouth, a white tee shirt with the sleeves rolled up, converse shoes. Also, he told me he deals drugs. We chatted for a while and played the which girls on the 2 oclock tour we would pay to see naked game. I slowly earned his trust and finally invited myself to stay with him in a small apartment in East Harlem. He didnt say no. I assured him that it didnt matter how small or dingy it was, that I wanted to immerse myself in the lives of the downtrodden working class, that I would be no trouble at all as long as he had toilet seat covers and ample space for my air purifier. And it can really tie a room together. On the way to his place he explained what it was like growing up in Hells Kitchen. He told me about the limited choices he had as a young man to make money, about his emotionally distant, abusive father and a hundred other equally boring stories. I dont remember most of them because I fell asleep behind my sunglasses twice and because I started feeling sick every time I scribbled something on the train. Did you ever kill anyone in the name of love? I asked him. He laughed and looked at his feet. I. I broke down my girlfriends door once. But I just wanted to scare her. Did you and your crew ever have to dance your way out of a potential scuffle? You dont have to tell me now. Well get there. Carls apartment was much bigger than I had hoped. It had track lighting and art on the walls. An unused entertainment center pouted in the corner while leather couches circled a bookshelf like sharks that had sensed blood in the water. Books! I laughed. Thats funny. Nice touch. I winked at him and ran a finger over the couch. These items are hot, arent they? I whispered. Carl shrugged and offered to turn on the AC. While he tinkered with the central air I explored briefly on my own, dipping my head into the kitchen and behind closed doors, until I stumbled upon two thieves in a bedroom. I screamed, not loud, like a man. Sharks! I warned Carl from where I was hiding behind the couch. Those are my roommates. Thats Esteban and his sister, Maria. Still wary, I dusted myself off and shook Estebans hand. His shorter and stockier sister sniffled and wiped at her nose before offering me the same hand. My heart soared as I shook it. She seemed like the kind of girl I could love, if I was willing to try really, really hard. Somewhere in between these two. Esteban simmered a traditional Puerto Rican stew while I grilled the three of them on race relations and local gang activity. Esteban was annoyingly articulate. He explained that the great melting pot of New York, like the pot of stew, just needed time to mature and blend. It was becoming more homogeneous. People of different backgrounds werent just tolerant of each another anymore, they grew to like and complement one another. I listened and smiled politely, still holding out suspicion that Esteban might just be a wolf in sheeps clothing. Or, more literally, in a New York Jets T shirt. Later that night I stole away with Maria to the fire escape for some face time. She sat airing out her armpits while taking drags of Carls weed. We watched the lights on distant apartments flicker and heard tinny Latin music chirp through some open window. I wanted to talk to her about her dreams for the future, about whether she thought about love, and at the very least, some nail polish and a swig of mouthwash. I asked her if she ever thought of leaving the oppression of New York. I wanted to find any semblance of whimsy in her heart that I could latch onto. She told me shed thought about moving to Newark once. It was enough. I know how you feel, I told her. This city will chew you up and spit you out if youre not careful, especially a girl as bea so close to beauty as you. She pounded her chest with one fist until something popped inside and a burp escaped. Maybe I could get you out of here, get you out of this crazy life your brother and Carl are mixed up in, I told her. Yeah, alright, she sighed and crawled back through the window. I stood and stared out over the city of giants, wondering how many crimes were being committed at that exact moment. It broke my heart to think of the poor fighting the poor, keeping each other down over silly turf wars. Im not afraid of you, I shouted. I will see your ruthlessness and raise you love! Hey asshole! a childs voice shouted from across the alley. Keep it down, some of us have jobs in the morning. Probably a newsie but I like this scenario better. The next day I confronted Esteban about his sister over breakfast. He stood in front of a scrambled egg pan with his mouth open.
