SMITHThe day after LeBron James stunned Northeast Ohio by leaving the Cavaliers, a Nike "Witness" poster remained firmly taped to the wall in downtown Cleveland's Styles and Profiles barber shop."What would we take it down for?" asked barber Russell Vaughn, 58. "His decision was his to make. Yes, it was hard on us, but he did what he had to do."Vaughn's comments stirred a swift retort from Ray Paulk, 47, a Cleveland truck driver who felt the way the star departed left behind a bad taste."You had one job to do that was bring a ring home, and you didn't do it," said Paulk. "Then you skipped out."The debate inside this small shop, featured years ago in one of Nike's first Witness commercials, reflected the range and intensity of emotions churning in Northeast Ohio since the region's hero declared he was changing teams.The conversation is more thoughtful and nuanced in Greater Cleveland than what the nation saw Thursday night, when news cameras captured fans burning LeBron jerseys. Heartbreak is the universal sentiment, but beyond talk radio and sports bars, forgiving voices blend with the accusatory ones.Within the black community especially, people are less likely to condemn James' decision and to try to understand it. Local reaction at times has illustrated a generational divide, with older fans more likely to see betrayal and younger fans more likely to defend a young person's right to chase his dreams. And especially down Interstate 77 in James' hometown of Akron, he's still the King to many."It was a heartbreak that he left. But I probably would have done the same thing," said Romero Fountaine, 14, while spending time at the Broadway Boys Girls Club in Cleveland. "I can still look up to him."Elizabeth England, 40, a black Cleveland Heights mother of three, feels James is someone her sons can emulate."I see a man who takes care of his children, who respects and loves his mother. I'm proud that he came from humble beginnings and did some positive things with his ability."James engenders a different kind of pride in the black community, where people remark upon more than athletic skills."That does get him a pass in the black community. I think blacks are less inclined to beat up on him," Frazier said.Many black fans began to recoil at what they saw as unjust criticism and personal attacks on James. It was easy to run and hide. Then came the and the odd acronyms of funny, unpronounceable things (what a cache anyways?). Suddenly you could not hide. Not anymore. Because some tech savvy whiz kid was sure to find a record of every word of wisdom you ever put out on the including things you thought you had deleted long back ( mean they can still get to stuff even after emptying my Recycle Bin? ^%! so it happened that a report that may have been picked up from another publication went live on a particular website apparently by mistake, with these damning words in the main body: The orders were allegedly to target Aditi restaurant in Parel which was allegedly issuing receipts making fun of the UPA government. That such marching orders may have come from the Congress HQ was deeply disturbing to say the least. I promptly posted the news on twitter. A few hours later when I clicked on the link, the offending words seemed to have vanished. Vanished without a trace! No mention at all. For a brief moment, I wondered if I was imagining things. Then, I remembered the whiz kids! Within minutes of putting out a request for help, I managed to get my hands on the original report as it had appeared a few hours back. Sure enough, the words were there. Congress workers had indeed claimed that orders to shut Aditi restaurant had come from the party headquarters in Delhi. In normal times, such an order from any party headquarter would attract headlines and lead to frenzied panel discussions, op eds, debates, and screaming headlines. None of this happened. Instead, there was thunderous silence. A few days later, another report went live on the website of a leading newspaper. Referring to the Railway scam, the headline read: Gandhi has given his go ahead, so be sure of the appointment The news report mentioned that names of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi had cropped up several times in phone transcripts unearthed by CBI in the Railways jobs for cash scandal. This was explosive stuff. Again, the frenzy and the din that would have normally accompanied such headlines was missing. All we had was the deafening silence of complicity. Sometime over the next few hours, the report disappeared. It is no longer available on the website of the newspaper. But someone had forgotten the whiz kids and the power of web caches. Within a few hours, the whole episode was neatly documented. The original report is now on the web. You can run but you can hide Someday, mainstream media will realise this. The Seahawks took over with 5:27 left following an interception and never let Minnesota see the ball again. The Seahawks ran 11 plays, converting a pair of fourth down attempts. The last fourth down conversion was a 6 yard pass on fourth and 4 to fullback Michael Robinson out of the backfield.Russell Wilson then took a knee at the Minnesota 9, concluding one of Seattle's more impressive drives that didn't result in points.We wanted to finish the game on offense and we didn't want to give them a chance, Carroll said.Peterson was the story early because of his dynamic performance that included 144 yards rushing in the first half. But Lynch was equally good in a different way. While Peterson carried just five times in the second half, Lynch was handed the ball 15 times and told to grind out yards and eat up clock. Lynch had just one run that went for more than 10 yards a 23 yard run when he carried tacklers and helped set up his 3 yard TD in the third quarter but he accomplished what Seattle wanted.The Seahawks had 21 minutes of possession in the second half and of the final 11:49 of the fourth quarter, Minnesota held the ball for just 56 seconds.Some of Peterson's yards were just his remarkable ability. Carroll noted that was the case on his 74 yard run on the second play of the game when Peterson slipped between two defenders at the sideline with a piercing cut and found open field only to be tracked down at the 1.But there were issues with defenders filling in the wrong gaps that gave Peterson a free run into the secondary.He made a lot of guys miss, but we did not fit our runs well at all at times. There were a bunch of them that we did, but there were a half dozen plays that we didn't and we took advantage of them and made the most of it, Carroll said. He was very, very quick and very decisive in his runs and made the most of the opportunities that he had and we were lucky to get him down a couple of times.Instead of trying to make slowing down Peterson more complicated, the Seahawks simplified things in the second half. Multiple players noted the decision to return to their base defense. While Peterson had one big run in the second half among the few carries he had Seattle also stopped Peterson three times for no gain or a loss of yardage.After carrying the Seahawks through the early part of the season, Seattle's defense has now given up at least 20 points in three of the past four games. And if Christian Ponder had been at all effective throwing the ball, the Vikings would have become the fourth straight team to top 300 total yards against the Seahawks.That's why finishing is so important, Carroll said. We did all of the right stuff to get out of that game with a big win for us at the end.
