Superb Internet Elya McCleave and A Small Orange Douglas Hanna presented some very compelling strategies for delivering a better customer experience to hosting customers in their shared Monday morning presentation at HostingCon 2010. Elya McCleave, Superb Internet vice president of customer care, kicked off for Building a Customer Focused Company, the first session in the sales and marketing track of HostingCon. In determining a strategy to deliver excellent hosting experiences, McCleave actually looked to brands outside of hosting to the hotel and service businesses to determine how to develop an effective strategy. Superb Internet was about to go about this by assigning an executive role focused on customer experience, and creating a proactive customer care team. This, sort of Customer Officer can guide and manage the customer experience. It may come at no surprise that the customer end experience stems from the company itself. care of your staff, McCleave said, your staff as champions. the organization, a host should look at all levels of the company, and it has to start with the CEO. How much time do you spend coaching the managers, and how do those managers coach the employees. spent a lot of time coaching and training, which is something a lot of companies bypass. makes employees more happier, and that not only reduces turn over, but it also creates better customer experiences. Central to creating an excellent customer experience is a culture of empathy. Employees should into the shoes of the customer, enabling them to understand their situation and their frustrations. This is done at hotels like the Four Seasons by giving employees and their families free stays at their hotels. Similarly, this is done at Superb Internet by giving support staff free shared hosting accounts. In this way, staff can understand the experience, and even make some recommendations. Following suit, A Hanna talked about building a great customer experience, however, from the perspective of building effective teams. Hanna, whose background includes posts at large Web host HostGator, has a unique perspective in that he is now at a very small host with about 15 employees, all working remotely. The advantages of a bigger company are that there are enough people for 24/7 customer service coverage, have a large knowledge base; can afford customized, high end systems, and can afford big name, experienced managers from big companies. They do, however, tend to have greater turnover, and lots of policy and procedures limit its flexibility. Also there are lots of customers, making the workplace busy and hectic. Smaller companies, on the other hand, can build a rapport with customers think the TV bar versus a chain bar. Within the organization, management can also interact and work with employees more closely. Large companies, however, can leverage the advantages of the small company by creating an effective team structure. A team is typically a self sufficient group that makes it seem like a 10 15 person company. Also, account managers can put a voice and a face to large organizations managers let you build a personal repore with the company, Hanna said. Bad account managers, however, can have the opposite effect, so it important to hold them to high standards. Staff considerations are also crucial. you get a jerk in your 10 person company it going to do a lot more damage, than at your 10,000 person company. creating a customer focussed organization starts at the CEO and permeates every tier of the company. And, while she notes that there is more to it, McCleave rightly notes, employees are happy, customers will be happy. Although the university is very prestigious, that is not why I would recommend the University of Mannheim to future exchange students. The university is highly prepared for exchange students, making it VERY easy for incoming students to get settled quickly and start enjoying their experience as soon as you arrive at the train station on your first day. Not only do the university host a wide variety of courses taught in English, but it also has a number of courses purpose taught for exchange students; they also have an incredible student organisation known as VISUM. VISUM is by far the best student run organisation I have ever come across. Starting from day one they will be there to ensure you have a smooth journey through your exchange. I highly recommend taking part in the Program that they offer; your buddy will likely meet you at the train station on your day of arrive and make all of the bureaucratic obstacles that you face in Germany that much easier. What really makes this organisation stand out however, is their dedication throughout the semester to organise social events such as weekly parties and other recreation days. Basically, with VISUM it is impossible not to have an amazing experience, with amazing people while on exchange. Academically speaking the work is no harder than the work at UQ. There are some slight differences in that you will not only have to enrol into your classes, but also register to take the exam. Also, one obstacle that some find challenging is the heavy weighting placed on theory and that in a lot of the subjects word for word definitions are a must, as opposed to interpretation like I was use to. (Recommended subjects: ACC350 International Accounting MKT350 Consumer Behaviour. Not recommended: Finance and Operations courses as the difficulty is much higher) When it comes to travel opportunities, being centrally located in Europe, Mannheim is abundant. You will quickly learn that the two cheapest ways to travel are to either fly Ryan Air (flying from Frankfurt Hahn, a direct bus from Mannheim is available) or to rent a car with a group of friends. It was these lessons that made it affordable for me to go to Dublin for St Patrick Day, drive to the Austrian Alps for a ski trip and have a spontaneous road trip to Paris for the weekend; I was even able to fly to Norway returning from Sweden for under $20! My Five top tips: Get a residence in Hafenstrasse! (If not another one close the quadrant area). Although the Ulmenweg Res came highly recommended to me, after living their I don recommend it to anyone who wants o party a lot as it is a long way from the nightlife and very difficult to get to at night. The down town is in grid format, so instead of street names, each block carries a letter and number. This makes navigating unknown areas very easy! For cheap food grab some dinner at Caf Vienna (block S1). The service may be slow, but the waiters are down to earth speak decent English and the food isn bad either. Vogalfrei (Block C3) is my favourite caf With a very indie feel and the most friendly owner I have ever met with amazing food prepared vegetarian or vegan fresh every day it is amazing! It is also the only place you will find free tap water in all of Mannheim. Say to Dorothy for me! Make the most of every opportunity that comes your way! Take part in the language academy, go to the VISUM events, travel; how often do you have the opportunity to live and play in Europe?! A small change in sports shoes inserting a textured shoe insole rather than a smooth one could prevent a slew of sports injuries, a new study shows. However, one expert advises that better training in your sport might help more. The human foot contains extremely sensitive "sensors" in the sole sensors that provide important information about the terrain, writes lead researcher Gordon Waddington, MD, a physiotherapist with The Canberra Hospital in Australia. His study appears in this month's British Medical Journal of Sports Medicine. This information helps the ankles and legs adjust to maintain balance, Waddington explains. However, some of these sensors are masked in footwear that have smooth shoe insoles, which results in sports injuries, he writes. Waddington and his colleagues tested the effects of textured rubber insoles, designed to fit the boots of 17 players from the Australian Women's soccer team. Researchers tested the movement of the women's right and left ankles separately. They used a device that measured the women's ability to detect small changes when their ankles were turned in similar to movement that causes ankle sprains. The tests were performed several times while the women were in boots, with and without the textured shoe insoles, and while barefoot. They found "significantly worse" ankle movements while players wore smooth shoe insoles than while they were barefoot. However, the textured shoe insoles significantly improved the scores bringing them to barefoot levels. Patrick McMahon, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, is skeptical. A different shoe insole might help prevent sports injuries, but not greatly, he tells WebMD. Good training in your sport is the biggest factor in reducing sports injuries, McMahon says. "People are performing an activity, then when an unexpected event occurs, they are unable to react to that event, their muscles can't respond quickly enough. They're playing basketball, do a lay up, then accidentally come down on someone's shoe. Their reaction isn't going to be right. That's when an injury occurs. Nothing you put in a shoe will make a significant difference maybe a little difference, but I doubt it will decrease many injuries." Instead, learn the proper way to do your sport, he advises. "Learn to run so you won't hurt yourself. Learn how to hold your body during a basketball game to avoid sports injuries. That's how professional athletes avoid injuries. They learn how to anticipate an injury, they develop a good sense of where their body is in space. Decreasing injury is mostly affected by the training processes that are going on in your brain." Wmns Nike Free 5.0 Wolf Grey Pink Force White Quilted It started as an idea to raise money for a non profit organization called Akanksha Foundation, which helps to educate poor children in India, but India born, Creative Director, Sheena Matheiken has turned "The Uniform Project" into a world wide phenomenon. Matheiken has been wearing the same dress for more than 100 days and plans to continue until May, 2010. Her idea is to show the fashion industry how you can make one dress look like many with just the right accessories. The most important accessory for me of course would be the shoes, because no outfit is complete without them. In the upper right corner photo we see her sporting a pair of black strappy shoes with a pointed toe. They add an air of sophistication to the "shirt dress" and red tights. The upper right and the bottom left pictures are both accented with tan colored shoes to accent the outfit, but the bottom left is my favorite choice of the bunch. This look is not only sophisticated, but classic as well. I think you can step into any era of time with these shoes and still be considered fashionable. Also, the black ankle socks blend so perfectly with the shoes you have to do a double take in order to tell that they're not made together. A perfect accessory to this timeless outfit. The Uniform Project has not only shown the world many ways to wear a single outfit, but also the importance of the right shoe to complete the outfit. Her feet speak volumes! I believe the dress calls attention to that. Outdoor exercise tips: What to wear for cold weather workoutsWhen there is a chill in the air, it's easy to think you'd be better off to put in a workout DVD, take your daily walk indoors at the local mall, or better yet, skip it all together. But as long. Tips for moving houseplants from outdoors to indoorsMany gardeners keep their houseplants outside during the summer and move them inside for the winter. Typically this is a good strategy but with moving plants in during the winter the plants.
