Here is the theme and the statement of the day: In order for any relationship to work and have any lasting prospect of existence what it must have first and foremost is INTEGRITY. So, what is this thing we call integrity? We use the word usually in relationship with others, like politicians, business people, and such. We can say when people have no integrity. How often do we think about and consider our own integrity? Do we know when we are in integrity and when we are not? 1. Obey the rules. This means the rules that you implicitly or explicitly agreed to keep. Like from wipe your shoes before you enter the house and you stop at the stop sign to do not call each other names and everything you can possibly think of in between. 2. Keep your word. This means keeping your promises and honoring your word as you would honor yourself as well as honoring what others expect you to do and doing what you know that you should do even if you did not say you would do it. (Well, you may want to read this one again.) 3. Be consistent with who you say you are or who you want others to regard you to be. If you are a spouse, be a good one and the one you are expected to be. Without integrity NOTHING works. The meaning of the word is and complete. If it is out of integrity it means it is dis integrated, therefore it cannot work. So what has this got to do with us? You may even say if we disintegrate we die. Well, not so drastic, anyway. Our body is intact but our character and who we are perceived to be, therefore our success in any undertaking including relationships is at stake. I hope you get the point. Awareness exercise: Pay attention to: How often you break rules even if no one notices it. How often you break your promises no matter how small on insignificant they are. How often you are not at your best in any role you assigned yourself to be. How often you do not fulfill another expectations. Try to be 100% (and no less) in integrity for any amount of time. Notice if anything changes. These rules are taken very seriously by those who frequent the alleys, so it's a very good idea for beginners to learn a bit about the sport and its expected bowling lane etiquette. Bowling itself dates back thousands of years into the history of man. It is believed that bowling pre dates written history. As the years marched forward, so did the game and along with it the rules of the road. From ancient man and the courts of English kings to local alleys in cities all over the world, bowling alley etiquette has evolved into what players of today expect. Get the proper gear. It is considered a major breach of bowling lane etiquette to wear street shoes on the lanes. Make sure to have on the proper shoes. Get rentals if you don't have your own. Street shoes can damage the lanes and disrupt the oil pattern on them (not to mention the fact many are not designed to handle the slick surface). Observe right of way. This is perhaps the number one rule of bowling lane etiquette. The general rule of play is to allow the bowler to the right of your lane to go first if you both arrive at the same time. This helps ensure that concentration isn't interrupted by two people trying to bowl simultaneously. Use common courtesy. Bowling is a game that many people take very seriously. Keep common courtesy and politeness in the front of your mind. Interrupt bowlers. It is considered a serious breach of bowling lane etiquette to talk to bowlers when they are trying to make a shot. Let the person who has the lane concentrate. Heckle. While it might be fun to pick on a friend who has bowled a bad frame, it is considered very rude to do so, especially in league play. Remember common courtesy and this bowling lane rule will make perfect sense. Cheat. This is a serious breach of bowling lane etiquette and something that just shouldn't be done. Keep the game clean and fun and let the pins and the score fall where they may. While it is nearly impossible to cheat with computerized scoring, some manual set ups still exist. Talk too loud or yell. Rowdy groups on the lanes can cause problems for everyone in the vicinity. Have fun, but try to keep the ruckus to a minimum. Bowling is an ancient sport that has evolved through the years. From ancient man and stone objects to modern man and computerized scoring, the game might have changed a bit, but the basic rules of the road remain. The game is meant to be fun and it does carry with it a need for good sporting conduct. Bred 11s,How Drum Brakes Work Brakes are friction devices that grip the wheel, slowing it through resistance until it stops. There are four different types of brakes: drum brakes, disc brakes, air brakes and vacuum brakes. Louis Renault invented the drum brake in 1902, and it consists of a heavy, flat topped cylinder that fits between the wheel rim and wheel hub. Vehicles have four brakes one on each wheel and each consists of two brake shoes and a piston. When you apply the brakes, the piston pushes the brake shoes against the drum. The inside of the brake drum slows wheel rotation. Excessive wear of the brake lining causes fade or which is decreased stopping power. For years, asbestos has been a component in brake linings because of its heat resistance. Due to its hazardous brake dust, asbestos use was discontinued in 2003 and it was replaced by aramid. Tough driving conditions and heavy truck loads take a toll on brake drum linings. You should replace them every 60,000 to 70,000 miles or about three or four times a year. When the brake drum lining measures 16/32 inches, you should replace it. Brake drum damage can occur from the brake lining rivets that wear through worn lining when its measurement gets below 14/32 inches. Normal wear is 6,250 miles per 1 inch of brake lining per brake pad. Minimum wear is 5,000 miles per 1/32 inch.
Worldwide Online Specialty Stores Sells a Variety Of New Classic Style Of Bred 11s,Championship Cigar 6s Ok this totally freaked me out when I went to Canada and stayed with a family there. They looked at us weird, like why aren't you taking your shoes off but they didn't say anything to us. We figured it out by looking at all the pairs of shoes by their door. I live in Texas and I don't like it when people take off their shoes in MY house. Unless they're going to sleep over then fine, otherwise, no way! I'm Canadian, and I'd never keep my shoes on in anyone's house. Even repairmen, etc. take their shoes off here. I couldn't imagine wearing shoes all day in the house. when you get dressed, then keep them on even if you're just puttering around your house? I've always wondered that. I'm really not sure how to word this without it sounding weird. we don't take our shoes off at the door (on a "normal" day. of course, if it's raining or has been raining or we step in something nasty). we wear 'em into the living room and usually take them off when we get in there or shortly after. I'm not real strict about it, it's not a big deal for us to wear our shoes around, but now that I actually sit here and think about it, we're just more comfortable with our stinky feet out of shoes, lol. But I guess to answer you. yeah, we wear our shoes inside a lot, but not most of the time (lol, how much sense does that make?). Bred 11s I was a jogger, not a runner, off and on for 30 years and I suspect this activity is one reason I have gimpy knees today. Maybe the jogging was heart healthy, and helped me survive to my present advanced age. Quien sabe? If I had it to do over again I wouldn't do much jogging, if any. I'd exercise, sure. Stretching, mostly, and moderate weight lifting, and some kind of aerobics. Bicycling, maybe, or a mild sport that gives the old ticker a workout. MacDonald. He thought the human body was designed to walk for long distances, to run fast for short distances (when being chased, that is), and for carrying heavy burdens to the cave. He said any exercise that didn't address those basic activities was extraneous. Those marathoners? I give them all the credit they deserve but I doubt running 26 miles without stopping, when nothing is chasing you, is good for the health. Did you ever stand at the finish of a marathon and study the faces of the runners? What did you see? When I stood at the finish line of a marathon, all the fast runners had finished, showered and driven away. All that was left were staffers and families of runners still on the course. Still, I was always proud to have arrived on two feet. I consider the marathons I ran to have been among of the most significant things I ever did because of the difficulty involved. Alberto Salazar who was a world class marathoner in the 70 said he was always impressed by people who needed four hours to finish a marathon because he didn think he could run for four hours. The difference between a jogger and runner is that a runner runs faster than oneself and a jogger runs slower. Those runners look as if they were going to have a heart attack right then and there, their faces contorted to the point where you can recognize them any longer. No, that not for me either. I was no runner during my school years, ended up last every time in the 100m dash! I like the elliptical machines, treadmills, and bikes at the gym. Switch between those to keep from getting too bored. Then I do some pretty heavy weight lifting and some machines; believe in building up the muscles around the joints and have been doing that for 20 years three times per week. It works for me. Forget the marathoners; there are ultrarunners who compete at distances of 50, 100, and even longer mileages. There is one theory that man evolved the ability to run ultra long distances in order to run down prey. Man has the ability to breathe and to sweat out body heat while running. Four footed animals do not breathe normally while running and cannot expel body heat without stopping and resting and panting to cool down. The animal may be able to run two or three times faster than a human, but the human who can run ultra long distances can eventually run down any animal. The theory is expounded in more detail in a book entitled To Run by Christopher McDougall. It discusses the history of ultrarunning, and focuses on a tribe of Indians, the Tarahumaras, who reside in the Copper Canyons of Mexico, and known to be among the best long distance runners in the world. It describes a little known race held in the Canyons, pitting the best of the Tarahumaras against a handful of the best ultrarunners from around the world. It also devotes a lot of space to runners injuries and accuses Nike and other running shoe manufacturers of causing most of the foot and knee injuries of distance runners. A great read. I jogged for 10 years after bypass surgery, and then two knee scopes ended the jogging. I now settled into walking 3 miles 4 days a week. Needing to loose some weight, my oldest son started serious running 3 4 years ago. He has now run four marathons and several half marathons the last two years. I watched him and others finish in the San Diego and Seattle Rock and Roll Marathons. While a few look horrible, most seem to be ecstatic in that zone known as a runner high. I suspect he (and all the other runners) will someday join the gimpers club like Leon and I. But, he has lost about 50 lbs, so it cannot be all bad. Besides, several of my friends tell me that their new knee replacements are wonderful. I probably know first hand in a year or so. Off topic, but, Hey Eli (our blog weather reporter), after watching tonights TV weather, I think it calls for a Panhandle weather report. I not taking a dog or anything else for a walk tonight. Winds reached hurricane force over much of the Panhandle today (74 mph or better). Temperature is now 13 and will be in singles digits by midnight. A wind chill advisory is in effect until mid morning tomorrow with wind chills of zero to 15. If it this cold in Amarillo, Jack in Aspen might really be in a fix. Hate to be a bad news harbinger, but this artic blast is headed for Houston overnight. Eli, if you walk the dog tomorrow AM, we look forward to your report. Speaking of cold, someone on a blog recently asked if one tongue would really freeze to a metal pole? Answer is yes. I finally gave it up in about 1995 because I kept getting tendonitis in my hip. My knees are still in fairly good shape. I do have a kneecap problem, but it has nothing to do with running, I think. The look on a marathoner face will be different if he or she is an elite runner, finishing under three hours, than it will be if it is a recreational marathoner, finishing over four hours. Recreational runners are usually just happy to finish and don usually punish themselves as much as someone trying to win the race. I had races where I had problems and likely had a pained look on my face, but nothing like what one sees on the faces of elite runners. Larry Posted: Hate to be a bad news harbinger, but this artic blast is headed for Houston overnight. That not bad news, it GREAT! My air conditioners are on this very moment. For years I jogged 7 miles, 5 days a week. I jogged the same route and always finished in 40 42 minutes. I wore Addias running shoes. My knees are wrecked. I blame the knee problem on running in those thin shoes. Larry mentioned high About 2 1/4 miles out, I would start to tire. I made it by running from one electric pole to the next by telling myself, made it to this one. I can make it to another. After another 1/2 mile, I would get that wonderful high I have no doubt that I could have run 50 or more miles. Never been to any kind of a marathon in person, but on TV. It reminds me of the salmon run in the NW. They near death when they reach the spawning ground, only to die after finishing laying the eggs. That what those runners look like to me. I did a lot of physical activity when I was younger, weight lifting, jogging, swimming. I still bike, but the swimming is probably the lowest impact exercise and least damaging to the joints. That weather up in Larry neck of the woods sounds just plain dangerous. We had a late afternoon shower yesterday, dropped the temps into the low 70 People put on ponchos and jackets here(3deg.43 when that happens. Saludos de la Valle Cauca! Hi Larry! It 32 deg., holding and breezy as the sun rises, Zoey loved it and I had to wear my old quilted shirt over a sweat shirt. As to the running, my old Army outfit had us out for two miles every morning. We had an annual twenty mile or so as night withdrawal training. I ran for awhile after the Army and it a hard habit to break. But the kids and work was the encouraging factor to stop. Here in Fredericksburg, I have an old work podnah from my HL days named Bob Fletcher fast approaching 90 and he STILL runs. He been written up in the Chron, wrote a few books about running and the guy STILL looks great! Good morning Eli and all 6 this AM and wind chill factor of about 10 (I suppose you guys realize that I use the asterisk for the little degree circle being as standard keyboards don have the degree indicator, and I know there is some strange key combination that supposedly brings it up, but its too much trouble). Little Zoey might need a doggie sweater if she were here. Ralph W, I think you may have to switch to heat when the polar express arrives. Barbara, you are right about the Doc and runners, I was my orthopedic doc pastor when he was in high school. When I told him I been running for 10 yrs, he said preacher, no one over 40 ought to ever run, that how I stay in business. The Dallas White Rock Marathon is this weekend. My son ran the Tulsa marathon two weeks ago, so he is just running the half marathon at White Rock. Here an interesting note on the oldest runner entered in this weekend White Rock run.
