The survey, which covers issues such as body image and eating habits, gauges participants as they begin training for the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. For most people, running 26.2 miles is out of the question. But for students in the Cleveland School District, a marathon is becoming an ever more realistic goal. What do they have the rest of us don't? Well, in addition to youthful energy, they have free shoes, discounted race fees and structured encouragement through a public health initiative called "We Run This City."Since its debut three years ago, the program has helped hundreds of kids stabilize their weight and build self esteem by enabling them to take part in races affiliated with the annual Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon. This year, the program expects to involve around 500 kids, up from 80 in 2006."All we want is for them to cross the finish line," said Tara Taylor, youth marathon coordinator for the Greater Cleveland YMCA, a key partner in the program. The Y, at East 22nd Street and Prospect Avenue, is opening its facilities to kids who commit to the race, which is Sunday, May 17. Running doesn't just keep kids in school and out of gangs, officials in California found. It also counteracts unhealthy lifestyle habits.Figuring a similar program might work here, the Cleveland Department of Public Health combined funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the national YMCA to create a program called "Steps to a Healthier Cleveland," which organizes "We Run This City." Funding from the 2004 grant supporting the program is slated to expire this September, prompting administrators to seek a renewal or a local sponsor.Cleveland also took the Los Angeles model one step further, incorporating a scientific dimension through the Center for Health Promotion Research at Case Western Reserve University. In this version of the program, which targets students in grades six through 12, all participants are monitored before and after the race to determine how much they benefit from running. Before the race, participants submit to a screening measuring their body mass index (a ratio between height and weight), blood pressure and cardiovascular fitness. Organizers also use surveys to document risk factors such as the quantity of vegetables they eat, tobacco use and physical activity at home.At one time, nearly a quarter of respondents in Cleveland were found to be overweight, while large portions had or were at risk of developing hypertension (high blood pressure). Thirty eight percent said their neighborhoods were unsafe for outdoor activity. While these results were unsurprising, they demonstrated that children in Cleveland lag behind their suburban peers in terms of fitness and opportunities for physical activity."It was really informative," said Karen Butler, the city's commissioner of health. "It validated a lot of what we already suspected."Most students enrolled in "We Run This City" commit to completing a marathon in stages, to running 25 miles on their own plus 1.2 miles on race day. Much of their running takes place in school, during physical education classes. Most years, students in the 1.2 mile division are accompanied on race day by running legends Anne Audain and Bill Rodgers, celebrity spokespeople for the Cleveland Marathon.Older, fitter students have the option of running the 6.2 mile 10K, an official race within the marathon, right alongside thousands of adult participants."If I put my mind to it, I know I can do it," said Dominique Beck, an eighth grader at Willow School who plans to run the 10K. "I'll be holding my stomach, but I'll just keep running regardless. I'll give it my best shot."A select few, meanwhile, take on the 13.1 mile half marathon. Along with the 10K runners, these students get to sleep at the downtown YMCA the night before the race. Having already served just over half that, 43 year old Clifford, of Dartmouth Crescent, Bilston, was able to immediately return to his former life. Clifford, who owned the vehicle jointly with his wife but did not have a full licence, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking at Wolverhampton Crown Court in April. He was jailed for two years, but yesterday, in a hearing at London's Criminal Appeal Court, Lord Justice Maurice Kay, Mr Justice Jack and Mr Justice Simon, cut the sentence to six months. Mr Justice Simon said that, although he had taken the car without his wife's consent, the boy's death had been an accident which Clifford could not have avoided. Clifford, who has a motorcycle licence and experience of fork lift trucks, took the car for a drive after becoming upset on October 1. But tragedy struck when seven year old Keilyn, a pupil at Hurst Hill Primary School, Coseley, stepped from behind a parked car in Childs Avenue, Woodcross, in Wolverhampton. Witnesses said there was no way that Clifford could have seen the boy or that he was driving badly or speeding. But Clifford failed to stop and drove home, before going to a police station to tell officers he thought he had hit something. Today his lawyers appeared at the Appeal Court to argue that the sentence imposed was "manifestly excessive" on the grounds that there had been no aggravating factors in the offence. Allowing the appeal, Mr Justice Simon said: "Having considered all the submissions, we have concluded that the sentence of two years immediate imprisonment was too long by a factor which entitles this court to intervene. "We make no criticism of the recorder, who faced a very difficult sentencing exercise. "No sentence will be adequate to reflect the loss of a child." By Nick Pritchard This man(and I use this term lightly as what I want to call him is not printable) had no licence and decided he wanted to go for a little drive. He drove past a school and hit a 7 year old child yes a 7 year old some poor familys baby and could not even be bothered to stop killing him. He should not be let out just after 3 months . is that all a childs life is worth 3 months !! This sends out the wrong message to these idiots who think it OK to drive around with no Insurance, Tax or even a driving licence. He will be able to get on with his life as normal the parents of Keilyn will be living a life sentence , they will not get the opportunity to have their sentence reduced they have to live each and every day without the son. I currently taking driving lessons and one of the major things that I have learnt, which may of avoided or at least lessoned injuries to the poor child, is the emergancy stop. As this person has no licence and probably no intention of ever getting one, then obviously he wouldn know this potentially life saving maneuver. People like him need to be stopped and sufficiently penalised. One wonders how he would feel if someone did the same to his child under the same circumstances and how he would feel if they got exactly the same sentance as he did. My thoughts and prayers go out to the poor boys family Everyone has a duty to obey the law of the land, had this scum carried out that duty he would not have been driving a car along that stretch of road, had he obeyed that duty the car he was driving would not have come into contact with that child, end of argument, he was guilty of causing the death of a child. Now another point to get people thinking, this guy walked free after being the cause of the death of this little child, Ronnie Biggs got 30 years for robbing a train, so this just shows how British Law values money more than a child's life, what a sick society. Allen Edmond would probably be the most common and commonly recommended business dress shoe in the states, Church is its British counterpart. Both are good quality and great value, one of those should be available at almost every higher end store around you. In your price range you also have some other options, Salvatore as you mentioned, A. They have a number of lasts that range from blobby to slim, and they absolutely top quality (and very comfy). Alternatively, if you want something more European, Carmina has lovely shoes in the $500 range. (Among other sites.) Allen Edmonds are quite popular here and elsewhere, but they have some issues with QC (the Fifth Streets I just got would barely be acceptable as factory seconds), but they do have excellent customer service to compensate. close this windowyou'll need to or register to do thatcreate a new accountall it takes is a username and password.

They are recommended here for casual wear, but they are technically work boots. They are expensive because of a combination of quality in leather, sole, overall construction, and because they are made in the US (Red Wing, Minnesota, to be exact). I read reports of anywhere from 2 years to 15 years, depending on how you wear them (work or casual) and if you take car of them. Tell me how a brown leather boot goes out of style? Especially if they are being bought for work? I don need justification, I not buying them. But fucking lemmings like you pop up in every thread with something over 100 dollars and I know I not the only one sick of it, hence the downvotes. I don understand, honestly, why did you click the post and write a comment? You don want the boots, their too expensive, not your style, whatever. Air Jordan 5 Grape 2013 1 PJ Tour of Christmas Lights After nightly showers and warm pjs have been put on, load the kids up in the car with insulated cups of hot cocoa and Christmas music on the radio, then drive around the neighborhood looking at beautiful twinkling Christmas lights. If you decide to do this during the kid's holiday break, call a friend with kids who'll enjoy this adventure with you. By the way, you'll get maximum excitement if you keep this a surprise until just before they are ready to hop into bed. Shhhh! 2 Ice Skating and Ice Cream Outing Whether it be at your local park, indoor ice hockey arena or Galleria shopping mall, you will likely have an ice skating rink decked out in the holiday spirit. With warm clothes, socks, gloves, and a coat, treating the kids to an hour or two on the ice followed by a trip to the ice cream store will surely be a delight. Inviting a large group of friends to join in the fun would make this outing even more memorable for the kids. Plus, the photographic memories will be abundant. 3 Movie Night at Home Every holiday season, this is the one request that my children repeatedly have. They want a fun, quiet evening at home with just the family. First we start a fire, then we make a sweet treat. This year it was S'mores Bites. Next we lay out rows of sleeping bags in the middle of the living room floor and cuddle up to watch an old movie. With all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays, sometimes the kids just need close, quiet time with their family. This is our favorite way to have a merry little Christmas night. 4 Making Blingy Holiday Shirts With inexpensive t shirts from Old Navy, you can add plenty of color and bling for the holiday season. All you need is a rhinestone pattern from your local arts and crafts store and a hot iron. Within a few minutes, you've got a shirt decked out in the holiday spirit. Add a matching over sized hair bow and blingy shoe laces to complete the look for your daughter. Of course, you'll probably want to invite some friends to join you, because you will soon get calls about where you got these shirts, if not. The grandparents might even want to join you for this culture filled evening of fine dining, followed by your theater's holiday Broadway production or the ballet's magical interpretation of Nutcracker. This will definitely be an evening to snap lots of pictures of the kids and maybe even frame as gifts for extended family. With holiday music playing, turn a homemade pizza into a red and green ornament adorned, flocked Christmas tree. It's as simple as cutting a pre baked pizza crust into a Christmas tree shape, then cover it with pizza sauce, followed by mozzarella cheese.
